Description

This is an 8-hour SFST refresher course designed to improve the administration and overall consistency of the Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) Battery. Our mission is to decrease alcohol-related crashes, injuries, and deaths by promoting DWI deterrence and enforcement proficiency.

 *Successful completion of the Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Practitioner Course is a prerequisite.

Bio:

Carlos Champion is a sixteen year veteran with the Edinburg Police Department. He currently holds the rank of Lieutenant and has an Advanced Peace Officer TCLEOSE certification. He is assigned to the Training Division where he serves as the agency’s training coordinator and field training program commander. He is also the department’s DRE Agency Coordinator.

Carlos administers and supervises the Department’s recruit officer orientation,commands the field training program and is the Department’s principal instructor for Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, DWI investigation and report writing, mobile video, and radar speed measurement.

Carlos served as a Standardized Field Sobriety Testing instructor for the Texas Engineering Extension Service, and was the Texas Region 8 instructor coordinator for TEEX. He is currently a SFST instructor for the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council Regional Police Academies in Harlingen, Mission, and Hidalgo. Carlos is an instructor and coordinator associate with the Texas Drug and Alcohol Training Institute. He consults with SFST instructors from police academies at the Pharr Police Department, McAllen Police Department, and the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Department. He is a contracted Drug Recognition Expert Instructor and Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) Instructor for the Impaired Driving Initiatives section of Sam Houston State University.
